Annual report on the implementation of the common foreign and security policy

MEP Picula said that greater emphasis should be placed on the Western Balkans as a priority of the common foreign, security and defense policy.

"The report on the implementation of the common foreign and security policy was adopted by consensus. The role of the EU, not only in promoting peace and security, but also as a responsible actor in the deteriorating global context, is great. Regarding the report on the implementation of the common security and defense policy, I hope that we will adopt this report in a similar way in the future. I support the continued work on developing European strategic capacities.

In the growing instability, evidenced in the first weeks of this year, the EU must act faster, more forcefully and more constructively in the spirit of multilateralism, in order to promote the key European values ??of peace, cooperation and progress. Responding to many challenges is strategic autonomy, with a strong need for the EU to better coordinate existing ones and continue to develop its own security and defense capabilities.

I believe that greater emphasis should be placed on the Western Balkans as a priority of the common foreign, security and defense policy. A stable neighborhood is the guarantee of a stable European Union. Activity, cooperation and a European perspective are the messages we need to send to our partners in the Southeast. I am convinced that our new High Representative will also be committed to a strong Europe in a multilateral world, because there are many challenges, and our citizens expect decisive and timely moves, in accordance with our principles", MEP Picula said on the plennary sitting in Strasbourg.
