Cooperation on the project of European Capital of Culture 2020.

Member of the European Parliament Tonino Picula opened the Week of intellectual property at the University of Rijeka, at the invitation of the Office of technology transfer, dr.sc. Petra Karanikić.

As a co-author of the Guide "Traditional products and EU quality schemes: from an idea to the realization" which was presented to the public last week in Zagreb, MEP Picula gave a lecture on the protection of local products at the European level.

"A better awareness, understanding, and the understanding of the concept of intellectual property rights at the producer and consumer, are some of the reasons why I decided to promote the protection of traditional products. From the beginning of the mandate in the European Parliament, my Office organized workshops in Croatia – we were so far in Dubrovnik, Šibenik and Rovinj – where with the help of experts we inform small and medium-sized producers about the entire process of product protection. That's what our Guide on the protection of the products that we have made serves for. Protected products on the market are worth two and a half times more than products without protection, "Picula said.

MEP Tonino Picula met with the Mayor, Vojko Obersnel, with whom he participated at the presentation of the project "Rijeka-European capital of culture 2020." in Ri:HUB, where he discussed the possibilities of cooperation.with representatives of Rijeka and the County's cultural scene.

"Rijeka is a special environment where various heritage meet and I am very glad that I can take part in her additional affirmation in European framework. City of Rijeka got a great chance to present itself and whole Croatia. How a project of the European Capital of Culture is also a project of the European Parliament, as a Croatian representative I will give my personal contribution to its realization. Year 2020, when Rijeka will be Capital of Culture, will also be a stress test for the whole European Union, which will then evaluate the success of its long-term strategic programs", concluded MEP Picula.
