Solidarity not an option, but obligation of the EU

Picula commented topics of this week's EP plenary session which focuses on the fight against the corona virus

Organized by the Office of the European Parliament in Zagreb, Croatian MEP Tonino Picula participated in a video press conference addressing main agenda items of the upcoming plenary session, as well as other ongoing EP affairs.

MEP Picula said the solidarity was not an option for the European Union, but an obligation. "The measures we will vote on this session are a step towards recovering the European economy, boosting the optimism of European citizens, and restoring credibility to the European Union. We will discuss ten proposals in the package of measures to help Member States and the European Neighborhood to combat the effects of the pandemic. This proves the EU and its institutions are leaving the initial underperforming phase and entering a proactive one ", Picula said. He emphasized that the session agenda also included widely set budget changes for 2020. "We will strive to help all those who are directly at risk of the pandemic, those who lose their jobs, and those on the front line of defense - from healthcare personnel, to citizens who provide a stable supply chain of medical supplies and food."
