Regional News: Conference in Betina

As Vice President of the Parliamentary Intergroup for the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas, MEP Tonino Picula hosted a two-day International Conference "Maritime Heritage in local communities-models of sustainability". The Conference was held in shipyard Betina, as the unofficial capital of the Croatian shipbuilding.

MEP Picula warned on the problems in education.

"We keep talking about the reform of the curriculum and at the same time there is no sufficient content in schools, even in the maritime programs, which would stimulate the interest of young people for this extremely important segment of Croatian culture and life. If you do not have a strategy on the national level, then everything lies on the enthusiasm of individuals-people from the local communities who will be able to handle that but we will not be able to expand the horizons of those who would like to know more and are not so familiar with the topic. That is why we chose Betina, but also carefully picked out our guests at this Conference. "
