Two important Croatian projects on the Commission's list of priorities

On Tuesday, The European Commission gave support to projects that improve access to the global market of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The list of the Commission's priority projects which are funded by the European Union includes two projects in Croatia, the LNG terminal on the island of Krk and the LNG pipeline transit Zlobin-Slobodnica, which together received more than 20 million kunas.

"This is good news for Croatia which not only depends on gas imports, but its geographical position may become an important source of LNG that will supply and South-East Europe, and thus become an important energy regional hub. Because of its flexibility, it has the ability to respond to any shortages of gas. Not only does it change the economic and political positioning of Croatia in Europe, it also opens opportunities for small and medium commerce and entrepreneurship ", said MEP Picula.

MEP Picua first received strong support from Washington last year for the LNG terminal which was followed by support from the Commissioner for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič. Replying to his question during the exchange of views in the European Parliament, Šefčovič said that "the LNG should be given priority because it represents one of the important projects for the realization of the European Energy Union and responds to many of its dilemmas."
