There are currently about 6,500 migrants in BiH, most of them in improvized accommodation near the Croatian border, which raises the possibility of trying to make illegal crossings, Croatian MEP Tonino Picula recalled during his speech in the European Parliament.
"As a Member who expects to join Schengen as soon as possible, Croatia is aware that migration is a global challenge and has supported the Global Compact in Marakesh. The Union has every right to expect all full and potential Members to respect fundamental human rights and investigate and prosecute those responsible for violating them. At the same time, the EU has a commitment to help countries with limited resources on such a long border which are facing the local echo of a major European problem", he said.
