What are the main differences between SDP and HDZ in the European Parliament?
Among other things, relationship towards the European Union's values. One example is the Istanbul Convention that caused a sharp split in HDZ. The last case in which the distinction between the SDP and the HDZ, between S&D and the EPP was clearly seen, is the relationship with Hungary's president Viktor Orban. Colleagues from HDZ did not accept the resolution of the EP seeking activation of Article 7 - designed to affect the correction of the behavior of those states that deviate from the underlying assumptions on which the European project rests. We are also divided into a number of issues related to the EU's social future. I am deeply convinced that a good part of the crisis with which the European institutions are more or less unsuccessfully conceived in relation to the imported financial crisis in 2008. At that time the ruling EPP under Barroso's leadership did not make any smarter than the policy of renunciation and reduction of social rights, which was especially praised by German Democrats. They have done this extremely rigidly by opening Pandora's box of social and political frustrations everywhere in Europe, especially in the southern belt of the EU. This created a fertile ground for the rise of antisistemistic and populist ideas. Contrary to this EPP policy, we have offered, and we offer, far greater reliance on the so-called social pillars of the EU. This is a requirement to introduce guaranteed wages ranging from country to country, better integration of younger people into the labor market, as well as a stronger relationship to climate change that becomes an economic, security, but also a paramount political issue.
Dominant message in the campaign is the that is being asked to be EU citizens of equal rights. Feels like everyone is saying the same thing?
In the past five years we should have been more convincing to point out to citizens what we do in the European Parliament and what direct benefits we can have from our work, or harm, if we do not. This work is verifiable and tangible. I have initiated institutional changes in the European Parliament and the Commission. In my mandate, I provided the initial EUR 12 million for the energy transition project of the Croatian islands. The pilot project included 26 islands, of which 10 Croatian. If we were able to achieve a ratio of 1: 2.6 in all europrojects, we would be a top member rather than a member of many indicators at the very bottom, except for indicators of social pathology where we are quite high.
