"This is the result after years of work", says Croatian MEP Tonino Picula, born and raised in Lošinj and Šibenik.
"My whole life I felt obligated towards my islanders, and when I was first elected in the European Parliament in 2013, I realized that islands actually do not exist as an independent topic in the European Union, Commission or the Parliament", said Picula who decided to initiate the adoption of the Resolution on the Special Situation of Islands, which showed that the European Parliament admitted the need to adopt specific policies relating islanders.
